Myers Fencing has been building fences across Central Kentucky since 1996, and Louisville is one of the areas we serve most often out of our Nicholasville shop. It's a city with a wide range in its housing and business stock, from the wrought-iron ornamental fencing that suits Old Louisville's Victorian mansions to the wood privacy fences that make more sense on a smaller Highlands or Cherokee Triangle lot.
Louisville's winters bring their share of ice storms, and the humidity that rolls off the Ohio River in summer can accelerate wood rot in a fence that wasn't treated or installed correctly. A fence built for a milder, drier climate can end up warped, leaning, or rotting at the post by its second season, so we pay close attention to material choice, sealant, and installation depth on every Louisville project we take on.

Residential Fencing
No two Louisville neighborhoods have quite the same fencing needs. In Old Louisville, Victorian and Queen Anne homes often look best with ornamental aluminum fencing. It has the character of traditional ironwork but doesn’t demand the same level of maintenance. Newer homes in the East End tend to call for wood privacy or vinyl fencing, especially when the goal is to enclose a pool or define the backyard.
Pool fencing is a popular choice in newer Louisville subdivisions, where local safety codes typically require a self-latching gate and a minimum height, and we make sure every pool enclosure we install meets those requirements from day one. In the Highlands and Cherokee Triangle, where lots are smaller and closer together, we frequently install wood or chain-link fencing sized to fit tighter yards without overwhelming the space.
Commercial Fencing
Much of our commercial work in Louisville involves chain-link fencing for warehouses and distribution facilities — especially along the city’s industrial corridors — where businesses need to secure loading docks, parking lots, outdoor equipment, and other large areas. Chain link makes sense for these jobs because it can cover a long perimeter at a reasonable cost. It’s durable, straightforward to repair, and doesn’t require much routine maintenance.
Properties downtown often place more emphasis on appearance. For hospitality venues and mixed-use developments in these areas, we may recommend Trex composite or ornamental fencing. Both options create a more finished look while still providing the security and separation the property needs.
Temporary Fencing
Keep your Louisville construction site secure without blocking sidewalks or disrupting neighboring businesses. Temporary fence panels define the work zone, direct pedestrians away from hazards, and prevent unauthorized access. Add windscreens to conceal equipment, materials, and debris from customers and passersby.
For events, use temporary fencing to control entrances, reserve delivery lanes, and separate public areas from staff operations. These measures become especially important during Derby season, when businesses near Churchill Downs and other Louisville venues face heavier crowds and vehicle traffic. Gates give your crews and vendors controlled access, while street-facing windscreens provide additional privacy.
Local Project Spotlight: Derby City Gaming
Myers Fencing partnered with Derby City Gaming to assist with fencing the entry drive at this location. This 85,000-square-foot property opened in 2018, and when it expanded in the early 2020s, the undertaking added several additional amenities to the original property.
Myers Fencing installed a Trex composite fence around the property. Chain link would have created the look of an industrial perimeter, which didn’t suit a customer-facing entertainment venue. Trex gave the enclosure a finish that worked with the rest of the property.
The material also holds up well in Louisville’s humid summers. It won’t splinter or warp like wood and doesn’t need repainting. Those qualities have helped the fence maintain its appearance despite the additional traffic. The Derby City Gaming project remains one of our crew’s larger commercial installations in Louisville.
