Why you should Install Your Fence in the Winter
Most people believe the best time to complete outdoor projects, including fence installation, is during the spring and summer. While this is understandable, our team at Myers Fencing encourages you to consider the benefits of having your new fence installed during the year’s colder months. Why is winter a great time to get your fence? We’d love to share the reasons with you.
Better for Landscaping
We always take precautions to protect your landscaping, but damage to your lawn and shrubbery is always a risk when a fence is being installed. In the winter, your plants and shrubs are dormant, so they’re much easier to work around, especially if you wrap yours to protect them from frost. There aren’t any leaves, buds, or flowers that you have to worry about damage during the installation.
Cost Effective
The busy season for all outdoor contractors is spring and summer. With only so many hours of daylight available for working, time is at a premium during these seasons. Anything purchased during the off-season is more likely to cost less than when the product is in its highest demand. You may also get current inventory at a lower price so room can be made for newer products. You’re also far less likely to be placed on a waiting list for your new fence when demand is lower.
Enjoy the Spring
When you install a fence over the winter, you can enjoy it as soon as the weather starts to warm up. While your friends and neighbors are waiting for their new fences to be put up, you can kick back and enjoy your fence’s privacy and aesthetic appeal. Throw a BBQ or do some sunbathing without the hassle of being placed on a waitlist before your backyard can be more private.
Some Myths
While we’re on the subject, we can also dispel myths about having a new fence installed over the winter. A common misconception is that the ground is too hard to put in fencing during the colder season. We certainly have our fair share of cold weather here in Kentucky, but even when the air temperature drops below freezing, it takes the ground several days to catch up. In other words, the ground is soft enough for us to work with unless the outside temperature is consistently below freezing for about a week. Many people also fear that snowfall will sabotage their fencing project. In some parts of the country, that’s a valid concern, but here in Nicholasville, KY, we’re fortunate not to experience enough of the white stuff to impact your fence installation.
